Quality

These are just of the few things we do that differentiate us from other roofing companies.

Step Flashing System
Counter Flashing

Correct and sufficient flashing is extremely important when when making a roof water tight.  We use a step flashing system where every shingle against a wall or chimney will have protection.  Many roofers today use a one piece system which has proven to be insufficient.  Just like all of our flashing, we use a thick gauge, pre-finished black aluminum product which is shipped to us pre-cut and pre-bent.

Where brick walls intersect roof lines, counterflashing is needed.  After step-flashing is installed, an independent cap or counterflashing is attached to the brick wall.  With step-flashing attached to the roof and counterflashing attached to the brick, both systems remain intact during any house shifting.  The counterflashing is hemmed into the mortar joints to prohibit any water from intruding.

Many roofers use a thin grade, un-finished aluminum product to cut costs. Like our step flashing, our counterflashing is a thick grade, pre-finished black aluminum product. These areas must have quality products and proper installation to be effective.

Scalfolding System - Roof Jacks
Nailing Pattern

The roof scafolding system is very important when installing a new roof.  Many contractors use what are called 'toeboards', which are 2x4's nailed directly through the new shingles.   When these toeboards are removed, your home is left with hundreds of holes which will leak and cause damage to your home.  They may also void your shingle manufacturer warranty.   With our system, roof jacks are nailed under the tabs and the 2x4's are held in place on hooks. (See photos below)  When the roof is complete, the roof jacks are removed leaving your roof with no penetrations through the face of the shingles.

Every shingle on a house roofed by Howe will have at least 4 nails in it.   Our roofers lift the tab where 2 shingles meet and place nails over those water slots (See above photo).   Many roofing contractors only 3 nail their shingles which is in-sufficient.

With our roof scafolding system, your roof will remain 'hole-free' throughout the installation process.
